Does Bumble notify when you screenshot? Here's what to know

Bumble users can screenshot freely without worrying about notifications.
  • Bumble does not notify users of any screenshots within the app.
  • Users can capture profile photos and chat messages without notifying the other person.
  • Here's what that entails and how it compares to other popular apps.

Dating apps like Bumble may be a boon to people looking for a relationship, but they have invented all sorts of new questions and problems that never existed before smartphones. Can you take a screenshot of someone's profile, photos, or even a chat, for example? Should you do it without informing the other person? And if so, will they find out anyway?

Does Bumble notify users about screenshots?

Various social media and dating sites handle screenshots differently, but Bumble's policy is very liberal, which might be good or bad depending on whether you are taking the screenshot or being screenshotted.

In a nutshell, Bumble does not notify users if someone takes a screenshot in any form. You can capture a user's profile, photos, and even a chat window and there will be no notification or record that you did it.

That means you can capture a screenshot of a chat with someone and share it with a friend for their opinion, for example, and they won't find out. On the other hand, another Bumble user can do this to you without notification as well.

How other apps notify users about screenshots

Bumble is far from the only app which doesn't inform users about screenshots; in fact, this is by and large the norm. Facebook doesn't notify anyone about screenshots, for example, and that includes within Facebook Messenger as well as Facebook Stories and Facebook Dating. Likewise, Tinder has no notification system, nor does Hinge notify users about screenshots. Instagram is slightly more secure — the app lets users know if a screenshot was taken of a disappearing photo in a private chat.

Snapchat and BeReal are among the most strict when it comes to screenshots. The relatively new BeReal social media app, which focuses on daily, unfiltered, in-the-moment photos, indicates when someone has taken a screenshot of your photo with a small icon, which you can tap to see specifically who took the shot. Similarly, Snapchat, which puts the most emphasis on privacy and security, puts a notification directly in chat messages that you've taken a screenshot.
