The chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) quit his role in the wake of the disastrous 2020 Iowa caucus, which were plagued by technical problems that delayed the results.
Troy Price, who served as the chair of the IDP, gave his resignation to the State Central Committee on Wednesday.
"When I took over this party, we were still reeling from a bruising 2016 election cycle. Many people locally and across the country believed that Democrats in Iowa were dead, and that we would never see victories again," Price wrote in his resignation letter.
The Democrats' Iowa caucus dissolved into chaos after the results were delayed due to "inconsistencies in the reporting of three sets of results," citing errors with an app which was meant to streamline the process but achieved the opposite.
Ahead of the caucuses, Price displayed optimism in the party's preparation for the event.
"We are prepared, we are energized and we are ready to start this nomination process that will end with a new president and [President Donald Trump] packing his bags," Price tweeted.
It took the party nearly 48 hours after the caucus to report all of the vote.

"There is no doubt that the process of reporting results did not work," Price wrote. "It was simply unacceptable. It is why I called for an independent review of the decisions and processes that lead [sic] to this failure."
Price wrote he was stepping down to re-establish trust in the party.
"Leadership requires tough decisions, and this is one of the toughest decisions I have ever had to make," he wrote. "Throughout my tenure as chair, I have always said I would do what is in the best interest of the party.
"With my decision, I hope the party can regain the trust of those we lost and turn our attention to what is most important — winning in November."
The IDP tweeted that the State Central Committee will meet on Saturday to elect an interim chair.
"Our top priority is bringing this caucus to its completion — but we have not lost focus," the party wrote in the tweet. "Our eyes are on November."
