The coronavirus has killed more than 2,700 people in China. As of Tuesday, more than 80,000 cases of the virus have been confirmed across 39 countries.
The virus emerged at the end of December in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, which is home to 11 million people. The newest cases outside of China were announced in Switzerland, Austria, and Croatia on Tuesday.

The virus, which causes a disease called COVID-19, can infect the nose, throat, and sinuses. A recent study from the Chinese Center for Disease Control found that around 80% of coronavirus cases in China have been mild.
Most deaths so far have been reported in the Hubei province, where Wuhan is located. Authorities put the province on lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus. All transportation in and out of Wuhan has been halted.
Airports around the world are screening passengers for the virus and many countries have evacuated citizens and employees from China.
