Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell told BBC Breakfast that James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, must like the Bond song or else the tune won't get the go-ahead.
"He had to like it," said writer and producer O'Connell. "If Daniel doesn't like it, you don't get the job."
Eilish agreed, telling BBC Breakfast: "He's got a big say in it. We learned that from this."
Eilish and O'Connell's Bond song "No Time to Die" was released on February 13th and will be performed at Tuesday's Brit Awards.
"No Time to Die" is also the name of the new James Bond film, which will be Daniel Craig's fifth and final movie as 007 after appearing in "Casino Royale," "Quantum of Solace," "Skyfall," and "Spectre."
Eilish and O'Connell, despite penning the new Bond theme song, have no idea what happens in the film and were given only the smallest of details by producer Barbara Broccoli.
"We had a meeting with Barabra Broccoli in Ireland in the beginning of September," said Eilish. "She came to a show and she basically gave us, like, a little hint of what the first scene is ... what's happening."
Eilish and O'Connell also told BBC Breakfast that they wrote and recorded the song in just three days once they actually sat down properly to write it.
"We wrote and recorded the Bong song in a tour bus in Texas," said O'Connell. "We did go re-listen to everything [previous Bond songs], as much to know what had already been done before and what to avoid. We really wanted to make sure that we weren't making something that just felt like we were copying other great songs."
The two previous Bond songs before this, Sam Smith's "Writing's on the Wall" for "Spectre" and Adele's "Skyfall" for "Skyfall," both won Oscars — for best original song.
