A brush fire was raging through Riverside County in Southern California on Wednesday, reportedly spanning several hundred acres and prompting evacuations.
The Tenaja fire began shortly before 4 p.m. near Murrieta, California, burning the heavy brush and grass in the area, and has since burned almost 1,000 acres as of 8:50 p.m. local time, CAL FIRE Riverside tweeted.
Mandatory evacuation orders were put in place for nearby residences in The Trails Circle in La Cresta and the Santa Rose Plateau Visitor Center, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Nearly 300 firefighters in Riverside County are responding to the fire, as well as six air tankers, three helicopters and two bulldozers, according to Cal Fire Riverside, per the LA Times.
