Jorge Masvidal has accepted Nate Diaz's challenge, confirming on his recently-created YouTube channel that he's in negotiations to make a welterweight bout happen before the end of the year.

Masvidal and Diaz are two battled-hardened veterans of the UFC Octagon and created lasting headlines in 2019 because of dominant performances.

Masvidal secured the fastest knockout in UFC history when his flying knee concussed Ben Askren in July, and Diaz returned to the Octagon after three years away to beat Anthony Pettis in style on August 17.

Seconds after Diaz's masterclass, he got on the microphone and said he wanted to fight Masvidal — and Masvidal has said it would look like "two dogs, locked in the cage, going for the jugular."

In his video, Masvidal, who was playing "Street Fighter" on an arcade machine in what appeared to be his kitchen, said: "Nate was right about one thing: I'm no West Coast gangster. I'm from Miami-Dade county. I'm a dirty south goon — damn right I ain't no West Coast gangster.

"And I'm ready. I'm ready to put it on the line. I'm so gangster with it, besides the 7% tax in Cali, we can do it in Cali."

UFC boss Dana White supports the fight

Dana White

The UFC boss Dana White approves, telling the media at a press conference after UFC 241 that "everyone would want to see that fight."

And Masvidal said discussions have already begun. "We're negotiating now," he said. "Let's give the fans the fight that they want to see. Two dogs, locked in the cage, going for the jugular. You know I could get hit with a baseball bat and it don't mean nothing. The same thing for my rival.

"You could hit that dude with a baseball bat to the kneecaps and he's going to keep coming. It's a fight that the fans want and they're going to get.

"I'm going to give it my all, and I know Nate's going to give it his all. Let's do it."
