All the upcoming new TV shows that were just announced

This year's upfronts — the annual event where major television networks present their broadcast plans for the coming year to advertisers — gave us nearly 40 new TV shows to look forward to.

During upfronts, which usually occur in May each year, networks reveal which programs they're keeping, which ones they're canceling, and any new series they're planning to launch, with some surprise announcements along the way.

This year's presentations were no different, promising plenty of exciting new shows featuring stars like Kim Cattrall, Adam Pally, Fran Drescher, and Kenan Thompson. 

Here are all of the new shows announced at the 2019 upfronts:

CBS is adding courthouse drama "All Rise" to its fall lineup.

Stars: Simone Missick, Wilson Bethel, Marg Helgenberger, Jessica Camacho, J. Alex Brinson  Lindsay Mendez, and Ruthie Ann Miles.

Network synopsis: "'All Rise' is a courthouse drama that follows the chaotic, hopeful and sometimes absurd lives of its judges, prosecutors and public defenders, as they work with bailiffs, clerks and cops to get justice for the people of Los Angeles amidst a flawed legal process. Among them is newly appointed Judge Lola Carmichael, a highly regarded and impressive deputy district attorney who doesn't intend to sit back on the bench in her new role, but instead leans in, immediately pushing the boundaries and challenging the expectations of what a judge can be." 

Expected premiere: Mondays at 9 p.m. ET, fall 2019.

ABC's new fall drama "The Baker and the Beauty" is based on a hit Israeli show.

Stars: Victor Rasuk, Nathalie Kelley, Carlos Gómez, Dan Bucatinsky, Lisa Vial, David Del Rio, Belissa Escobedo, and Michelle Veintimilla. 

Network synopsis: "Daniel Garcia is working in the family bakery and doing everything that his loving Cuban parents and siblings expect him to do. But on a wild Miami night he meets Noa Hamilton, an international superstar and fashion mogul, and his life moves into the spotlight. Will this unlikely couple upend their lives to be together and pull their families into a culture clash?"

Ruby Rose will star on the CW's new fall show "Batwoman."

Stars: Ruby Rose, Douray Scott, Meagan Tandy, Elizabeth Anwels, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, and Rachel Skarsten. 

Network synopsis: "Kate Kane never planned to be Gotham's new vigilante. Three years after Batman mysteriously disappeared, Gotham is a city in despair. Without the Caped Crusader, the Gotham City Police Department was overrun and outgunned by criminal gangs ... Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate soars through the shadowed streets of Gotham as Batwoman. But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, she must first overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope."

"Bless the Harts" is one of Fox's four new comedies for next year.

Stars: Voice of Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Jillian Bell, and Ike Barinholtz

Network synopsis: "'Bless the Harts' is a new half-hour animated comedy that follows the Harts, a Southern family that is always broke, and forever struggling to make ends meet. They one day hope to achieve the American dream, but they're already rich – in friends, family and laughter."

NBC is adding "Bluff City Law" to its fall Monday night lineup.

Stars: Jimmy Smits, Caitlin McGee, Scott Shepherd, Barry Sloane, Michael Luwoye, MaameYaa Boafo, Stony Blyden and Jayne Atkinson.

Network synopsis: "Coming from a famous Memphis family known for taking on injustice, brilliant lawyer Sydney Strait used to work at her father Elijah's celebrated law firm until their tumultuous relationship got in the way. After barely speaking to him for years, Sydney is suddenly thrust back into the family fold when her philanthropist mother passes away unexpectedly. In the wake of her loss, hoping to reconnect with the daughter he loves, Elijah asks Sydney to rejoin his firm. She agrees because despite her lingering resentment and distrust, she knows that working alongside her father is her best hope at changing the world … if they can ever get along."

"Bob Hearts Abishola" is one of CBS' new fall comedies.

Stars: Folake Olowofoyeku, Billy Gardell, Christine Ebersole, Matt Jones, Maribeth Monroe, Vernee Watson, Shola Adewusi, Barry Shabaka Henley, and Travis Wolfe Jr. 

Network synopsis: "From award-winning creator, executive producer and writer Chuck Lorre, 'Bob Hearts Abishola' is a love story about a middle-aged compression sock businessman from Detroit who unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse, a Nigerian immigrant, while recovering from a heart attack and sets his sights on winning her over. Undaunted by Abishola's lack of initial interest or the vast differences in their backgrounds, Bob is determined to win Abishola's heart, in this comedic examination of immigrant life in America."

"Broke" is a new comedy from CBS expected to premiere midseason.

Stars: Jaime Camil, Pauley Perrette, Natasha Leggero, Izzy Diaz, and Antonio Corbo.

Network synopsis: "Jaime Camil and Pauley Perrette star in 'Broke' a comedy about Jackie, a single suburban mother who's shocked when her estranged sister, Elizabeth, her sister's outrageously wealthy, big-hearted husband, Javier, and Javier's fiercely loyal assistant/driver/friend, Luis, land on her doorstep in need of a place to live after the couple's money dries up. Though class differences may separate the women, and the size of the house and the number of people living in it will test the limits of family ties, the familial bond of sisterhood might be the catalyst they need to restore their relationship."

"Carol's Second Act" is another new comedy set to premiere on CBS this fall.

Stars: Patricia Heaton, Kyle MacLachlan, Ito Aghayere, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, and Sabrina Jalees. Lucas Neff guest stars. 

Network synopsis: "Emmy Award winner Patricia Heaton stars in 'Carol's Second Act', a comedy about a woman who embarks on a unique second act after raising her children, getting divorced and retiring from teaching: pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. At age 50, Carol is a medical intern and must sink or swim with peers who are half her age. It's her enthusiasm, perspective and yes, even her age, that may be exactly what will make her second act a great success."

NBC comedy "Council of Dads" will premiere this fall.

Stars: Sarah Wayne Callies, Clive Standen, Tom Everett Scott, J. August Richards, Blue Chapman, Emjay Anthony, Michele Weaver, Thalia Tran, Steven Silver, and Michael O'Neill.

Network synopsis: "When Scott, a loving father of four, has his entire life's plan thrown into upheaval by an unexpected health scare, he calls on a few of his closest allies to step in as back-up dads for every stage of his growing family's life. Scott assembles a trusted group of role models that includes Anthony, his oldest friend; Larry, his AA sponsor; and Oliver, his surgeon and best friend to his wife, Robin. These men agree to devote themselves to supporting and guiding Scott's amazing family through all the triumphs and challenges life has to offer – just in case he ever can't be there to do so himself."

Fox's "Deputy" is a Western-inspired police drama coming this fall.

Stars: Stephen Dorff, Yara Martinez, Brian Van Holt, Siena Goines, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Shane Paul McGhie, and Mark Moses. 

Network synopsis: "'Deputy' blends the spirit of a classic Western with a modern-day attitude and emotionally driven, visceral storytelling. Featuring an ensemble of ambitious and complicated human beings who won't rest until justice is served, 'Deputy' brings a gritty authenticity to the modern cop drama. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is one of the largest police forces in the world, but when the elected Sheriff dies, an arcane rule in the county charter, forged back in the Wild West, suddenly thrusts the most unlikely man into the job."

"Duncanville" is a new animated comedy premiering midseason on Fox.

Stars: Amy Poehler, Ty Burrell, Riki Lindhome, Betsy Sodaro, and Yassir Lester. Rashida Jones and Wiz Khalifa will guest star.

Network synopsis: "From Golden Globe winner Amy Poehler and Emmy Award winners Mike and Julie Scully comes 'Duncanville,' an animated family comedy centered around a spectacularly average 15-year-old boy with a rich fantasy life, and the people in his world. Poehler voices the series' two leading characters, Duncan and his mother, Annie."

Expected premiere: Midseason

 



"Emergence" is a character-driven drama coming this fall to ABC.

Stars: Allison Tolman, Alexa Swinton, Owain Yeoman, Ashley Aufderheide, Robert Bailey Jr., and Zabryna Guevara, with Donald Faison and Clancy Brown.

Network synopsis: "A character-driven genre thriller, 'Emergence' is about a police chief who takes in a young child she finds near the site of a mysterious accident who has no memory of what has happened. The investigation draws her into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined, and the child's identity is at the center of it all."

Expected premiere: Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET, fall 2019

CBS' "Evil" is a psychological thriller that will premiere this fall.

Stars: Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, Aasif Mandvi, Michael Emerson, Brooklyn Shuck, Skylar Gray, Maddy Crocco, and Dalya Knapp.

Network synopsis: "'Evil' is a psychological mystery that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. The series focuses on a skeptical female psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a carpenter as they investigate the Church's backlog of unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions and hauntings. Their job is to assess if there is a logical explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work."

"FBI: Most Wanted" is a new Dick Wolf series coming to CBS midseason.

Stars: Julian McMahon, Alana De La Garza, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Kellan Lutz, Roxy Sternberg, and Nathaniel Arcand.

Network synopsis: "From Emmy Award winner Dick Wolf and the team behind FBI and the 'Law & Order' franchise, 'FBI: Most Wanted' is a high-stakes drama that focuses on the Fugitive Task Force, which relentlessly tracks and captures the notorious criminals on the Bureau's Most Wanted list. Seasoned agent Jess LaCroix oversees the highly skilled team that functions as a mobile undercover unit that is always out in the field, pursuing those who are most desperate to elude justice."

"Filthy Rich" is a soapy Southern drama coming to Fox midseason.

Stars: Kim Cattrall, Melia Kreiling, Aubrey Dollar, Corey Cott, Benjamin Levy Aguilar, Mark L. Young, Olivia Macklin, with Steve Harris, and Gerald McRaney. 

Network synopsis: "From writer/director Tate Taylor comes 'Filthy Rich,' a southern Gothic family drama in which wealth, power and religion intersect — more correctly, collide — with outrageously soapy results. Meet the Monreauxes, a mega-rich Southern family famed for creating a wildly successful Christian television network. On the cusp of launching a digital retail arm of the company, the family's patriarch, Eugene, dies in a plane crash (or so we think), leaving Margaret, a now-'Oprah' to the religious and Southern communities, to take charge of the family business."

"For Life" will premiere midseason on ABC.

Stars: Nicholas Pinnock, Indira Varma, Joy Bryant, Glenn Fleshler, Dorian Missick, Tyla Harris, with Mary Stuart Masterson and Boris McGiver.

Network Synopsis: "Inspired by the life of Isaac Wright Jr., 'For Life' is a fictional serialized legal and family drama about a prisoner who becomes a lawyer, litigating cases for other inmates while fighting to overturn his own life sentence for a crime he didn't commit. His quest for freedom is driven by his desperate desire to get back to the family he loves and reclaim the life that was stolen from him. The show will also, through the window of his ferocious struggle and his complicated relationship with a progressive female prison warden, examine the flaws and challenges in our penal and legal systems."

Fox's animated comedy "The Great North" will feature the voices of Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman.

Stars: Voices of Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, Will Forte, Paul Rust, Aparna Nacherla, Dulcé Sloan, and Alanis Morissette as a guest star.

Network synopsis: "From executive producer Loren Bouchard, animated comedy 'The Great North' follows the Alaskan adventures of the Tobin family, as a single dad does his best to keep his weird bunch of kids close, especially as the artistic dreams of his only daughter lead her away from the family fishing boat and into the glamorous world of the local mall."

New NBC comedy "Indebted" will premiere midseason.

Stars: Adam Pally, Abby Elliott, Steven Weber and Fran Drescher

Network Synopsis: "Young parents Dave and Rebecca are ready to reclaim their life after years of diapers and sleepless nights. However, things take an unexpected turn when Dave's parents show up unannounced and broke, leaving Dave with no choice but to open the door to the people who gave him everything. But these boomerang parents aren't great with boundaries and the question of who's parenting who quickly becomes blurred in this multi-generational comedy starring Fran Drescher and Adam Pally as mother and son."

"Katy Keene" is a "Riverdale" spinoff coming to the CW midseason.

Stars: Lucy Hale, Ashleigh Murray, Jonny Beauchamp, Julia Chan, Lucien Laviscount, Camille Hyde, Katherine LaNasa, and Zane Holtz. 

Network synopsis: "A 'Riverdale' spin-off, 'Katy Keene' follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene, singer/songwriter Josie McCoy, performer Jorge Lopez/Ginger, and 'It Girl' Pepper Smith — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City … together."

"The Kenan Show" is a family comedy from NBC premiering midseason.

Stars: Kenan Thompson, Punam Patel, Dani Lockett, Dannah Lockett and Andy Garcia.

Network synopsis: "In this family comedy, Kenan Thompson strives to be a super dad to his two adorable girls while simultaneously balancing his job and a father-in-law who 'helps' in the most inappropriate ways."

NBC's new drama "Lincoln" is inspired by a best-selling book.

Stars: Russell Hornsby, Arielle Kebbel, Brian F. O'Byrne, Tate Ellington, Courtney Grosbeck, Ramses Jimenez, Brooke Lyons, Roslyn Ruff and Michael Imperioli.

Network synopsis: "Inspired by the best-selling book 'The Bone Collector,' former NYPD detective and forensic genius Lincoln Rhyme was at the top of his game until a serious accident at the hands of a notorious serial killer forces him out of the field. When Amelia Sachs, an intuitive young officer who's got her own gift for profiling, finds herself hot on the killer's trail, Rhyme in turn finds a partner for this new game of cat and mouse. As the unlikely detective duo joins forces to crack the city's most confounding cases, they must also race to take down the enigmatic 'Bone Collector' who brought them together."

ABC's new show "Mixed-ish" will follow a mixed-race family in the '80s.

Stars: Arica Himme, Tika Sumpter, Gary Cole, Christina Anthony, Mykal-Michelle Harris, and Ethan Childress.

Network synopsis: "In 'mixed-ish,' Rainbow Johnson recounts her experience growing up in a mixed-race family in the '80s and the constant dilemmas they had to face over whether to assimilate or stay true to themselves. Bow's parents Paul and Alicia decide to move from a hippie commune to the suburbs to better provide for their family. As her parents struggle with the challenges of their new life, Bow and her siblings navigate a mainstream school in which they're perceived as neither black nor white. This family's experiences illuminate the challenges of finding one's own identity when the rest of the world can't decide where you belong."

The CW's "Nancy Drew" will put a fresh spin on a classic detective story.

Stars: Kennedy McMann, Leah Lewis, Maddison Jaizani, Tunji Kasim, Alex Saxon, Scott Wolf, and Alvina August. 

Network synopsis: "Nancy Drew is a brilliant teenaged detective whose sense of self had come from solving mysteries in her hometown of Horseshoe Bay, Maine – until her mother's untimely death derails Nancy's college plans. Devastated by her mother's passing, Nancy swears off crime-solving while crossing off the days until she can re-apply to college. Fox's "neXt" will focus on artificial intelligence gone wrong.

Stars: John Slattery, Fernanda Andrade, Jason Butler Harner, Michael Mosle, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Gerardo Celasco, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Evan Whitten, Olenka Wos Kimball, and Dann Fink.

Network synopsis: "Silicon Valley pioneer Paul Leblanc built a fortune and legacy on the world-changing innovations he dreamed up, while ignoring and alienating the people around him, including his own daughter, Abby, and his short-sighted younger brother, Ted, who now runs Paul's company. After discovering that one of his own creations – a powerful A.I. called neXt – might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother, leaving him with nothing but mounting dread about the fate of the world. Fox's "Not Just Me" is a drama about an atypical family premiering this fall.

Stars: Brittany Snow, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Emily Osment, Mustafa Elzein, Mo McRae as Tim Moore, Victoria Cartagena, and Timothy Hutton.

Network synopsis: "Only child Jula Bechley finds her life turned upside down when her father, Leon Bechley, reveals that, over the course of his prize-winning career as a pioneering fertility doctor, he used his own sperm to conceive upwards of a hundred children. Reeling from this explosive revelation, Julia discovers two new sisters – her former best friend, Edie Palmer, and an ex-Olympic athlete, Roxy Doyle. Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson will star on Fox's "Outmatched."

Stars: Jason Biggs, Maggie Lawson, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Jack Stanton, Connor Kalopsis, Ashley Boettcher, and Oakley Bull. 

Network synopsis: "From writer/executive producer Lon Zimmet comes 'Outmatched,' a multi-camera family comedy about a blue-collar couple in Atlantic City trying to raise four kids – three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses. For most parents, parenting is hard. But for Cay, a caustic, take-no-prisoners casino pit boss, and husband Mike, a handyman and uncultivated guy's guy, parenting may as well be advanced calculus. Bradley Whitford will star on NBC's "Perfect Harmony," premiering this fall.

Network synopsis: "Bradley Whitford stars in this comedy about finding inspiration in the most unlikely places. Michael Sheen will play a sociopathic serial killer on Fox's "Prodigal Son."

Stars: Tom Payne, Michael Sheen, Bellamy Young, Lou Diamond Phillips, Halston Sage, Aurora Perrineau, Frank Harts, and Keiko Agena.        

Network synopsis: "Malcolm Bright has a gift. He knows how killers think, how their minds work. Why? Back in the 1990s, his father was one of the best, a notorious serial killer called 'The Surgeon.' That's why Bright is the best criminal psychologist around; murder is the family business. NBC comedy "Sunnyside" focuses on a disgraced former city councilman in Queens.

Stars: Kal Penn, Diana Maria Riva, Joel Kim Booster, Kiran Deol, Poppy Liu, Moses Storm, and Samba Schutte.

Network synopsis: "Garrett Modi was living the American Dream. As the youngest New York City Councilman ever, he was rubbing elbows with the political elite, attending star-studded parties and was the pride of Queens. But instead of spending his time in office helping the people that got him elected, he lost his way amidst the power and glamour of politics. When his downward spiral got him busted for public intoxication (and downright stupidity), it was all caught on tape and ended his career. Now, Garrett's crashing with his sister, Mallory, and wondering where it all went wrong. "Tommy," starring Edie Falco, will premiere midseason on CBS.

Stars: Edie Falco, Michael Chernus, Adelaide Clemens, David Fierro, Russell G. Jones, Olivia Lucy Phillip, and Joseph Lyle Taylor.

Network synopsis: "Multiple Emmy Award winner Edie Falco stars in 'Tommy' as a former high-ranking NYPD officer who becomes the first female Chief of Police for Los Angeles. A true blue New Yorker, Abigail 'Tommy' Thomas uses her unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to keep social, political and national security issues from hindering effective law enforcement in the Southland."

"Ultimate Tag" is an unscripted physical competition show premiering midseason on Fox.

Network synopsis: "Hosted by football superstars and brothers JJ, TJ and Derek Watt, 'Ultimate Tag' is a high-octane physical competition show based on the classic playground game of chase. The thrilling, energy-sapping competition will premiere in 2020."

"The Unicorn" is one of three fall comedies premiering this fall on CBS.

Stars: Walton Goggins, Rob Corddry, Michaela Watkins, Omar Benson Miller, Maya Lynne Robinson, Ruby Jay, and Makenzie Moss.

Network synopsis: "'The Unicorn' is a single-camera comedy about a tight-knit group of best friends and family who helps Wade embrace his 'new normal' in the wake of the loss of his wife one year ago. As a sometimes ill-equipped but always devoted single parent to his two adolescent daughters, he is taking the major step of dating again. "United We Fall" is a Latinx family comedy from ABC coming midseason.

Stars: Will Sasso, Christina Vidal, Jane Curtin, and Ella Grace Helton.

Network synopsis: "'United We Fall' is a profoundly realistic family sitcom that follows the trials and tribulations of Jo and Bill, parents of two young kids, as they try to make it day to day as a functioning family. Bill's very judgmental live-in mother and Jo's large, Latinx Catholic family will never hesitate to let our couple know they're seemingly screwing up, but Bill and Jo will always have each other's backs, united against everyone — other parents, teachers, doctors, specialists, coaches, co-workers and, especially, their kids."

Jane Levy will star on new NBC drama "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist."

Stars: Jane Levy, Skylar Astin, Peter Gallagher, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Carmen Cusack, and Mary Steenburgen.

Network synopsis: "In this joyous and celebratory drama, Zoey Clarke is a whip-smart computer coder forging her way in San Francisco. After an unusual event, she starts to hear the innermost wants and desires of the people around her through songs. At first, she questions her own sanity but soon realizes this unwanted curse may just be an incredibly wonderful gift."

Fox will offer a new installment of its hit drama with "9-1-1: Lone Star"

Stars: Rob Lowe, other cast members unknown

Network synopsis: "From 9-1-1 co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, 9-1-1: LONE STAR follows a sophisticated New York cop (Lowe), who, along with his son, re-locates, and must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in his own life." 

Expected premiere: Sunday, January 19 after the NFC Championship
